I can see what others can’t see.
I can also see what others want to see.
The ability to see what others want to see and what they don’t want to see.
Heavenly Sky Eye.
In fact, the Defense headquarters looks highly at my ability, and before that, I called this ability a dog’s eye.
Just as human eyes cannot see much difference in an edited picture, my Heavenly Sky Eye could not let me choose what to see.
Sometimes I see ghosts, hidden things, water temperature that is distinguished by looking at colors, and even color coded emotions. In addition, most of the things I see are useles.
However, there were many disadvantages. I can’t tell the difference between the information I receive. I can’t use it recklessly because I can’t decide what to see.
When I was not proficient, there was so much information that I would received everytime I use my Heavenly Sky Eye. My brain couldn’t hold out to the point I fainted.
If my brain has 1 gigabyte of computing power per seconds, Heavenly Sky Eye’s information is equivalent to delivering hundreds of gigabytes of information within an instant, so if I use it for a long time, my brain may explode.
And seeing was the only power I could use with Heavenly Sky Eye , so I’ve never been in a battle in my previous life. I was a spy, and what I do most of the time is just to watch.
I was a living and breathing human that provided information obtained through Heavenly Sky Eye.
I was able to see through Murim’s methods, the magic of the demons. However, knowing them did not help us win.
So on my last mission, I died.
Even if I didn’t remember how I died, I was a spy that has infiltrated in the middle of the enemy camp, so I had a predictable ending.
“Father, I repeat that it was just a fluke. I really don’t feel it!”
After all, just because I can see spirits doesn’t mean I can handle the power of the Spirits.
My father, who gradually became stiff with at my stubborn answer, sighed.
The quiet Ducal Hall suddenly began to change, as if an earthquake had occurred.
The wood vines quickly expanded and filled the surroundings tightly, and the roots that used to emit subtle light began to emit brighter light than fluorescent lights.
The surrounding air flactuated between hot and cold.
In one place, a pool of water appeared, and in the other, a mini volcano was created. Sometimes there was thunder, and even a gust of wind was powerful enough to shake my body inside a windowless room.
Under such pressure, I unconsciously activated my Heavenly Sky Eye.
Unexpectedly, when it was activated on its own, I began to see what caused it.
“Can you see it?” Father asks again.
“No, I didn’t see anything .”
I answered, trying to ignore the white Spirit that brushed my cheek.
Then my father criticized me with disapproving eyes.
“What a load of lies. Don’t hide it, my spirit are all telling otherwise. Air, Water, Earth Thunder and Fire Spirits are the Natural Spirits that controls the natural elements.”
The words didn’t catch my ears.
I stiffened with fear. The Earth Spirit, was staring at me like he wanted to eat me. Without my father, I may have been killed on the spot.
“They can’t be seen just by anyone.”
My father knew that I already know it, however, he continued with his lecture.
Maybe it’s a threat. Did my father order the Spirits to make a move on me? Was he threatening his own child?
“A Spirit can live up to thousand years. They are extremely powerful but only a handful of people can see them. How about you, son? You’ve seen so many Spirit of the earth, even though you don’t have any will! I’m sure you’ll be able to beat me in a few years, or even month. You can start contracting your own spirit because there was nothing I could teach you.”
My father talked very excitedly, to the point where veins started to appear on his neck. He must have forgotten how to breathe.
Well, he’s already old, so…
“MAC!”
When my father shouted, a blue wolf appeared from the giant tree.
The wolf, whose whole body’s fur and eyes were as blue as the moonlight of dawn, came to us, and even the other Spirits retreated while looking at the wolf.
Mac, whom my father called, was his main Spirit.
Did my father say that he was born in the widest lake of the Empire?
Mac was the most powerful Spirit my father has ever had which is also why Duke Libera Quilz Rainberg was called the Blue pillar of the empire.
The blue wolf slowly approached, flaunting its power.
I looked at my father anxiously.
He just cheered me up and gave me a thumbs up.
I got up from my chair and stepped back.
As the distance neared, the blue wolf moved towards me cautiously.
Smelling me as if to grasp me, his sharp eyes looked me in the face.
He was bigger than a bull, and his eyes were as scary as a Ranista.
Damn it.
I put strength in my calves and stood in place.
Maybe this is an opportunity.
Unlike four years ago, I might succeed.
In fact, I covet the Spirit’s power. If I were as strong as our father, I wouldn’t have to be afraid of my other siblings anymore.
With that in mind, four years ago I tried to communicate with the Spirit as my father instructed.
Although it was a disastrous ending, it might be different this time.
It was worth the try.
I gently reached out to the blue wolf who stood next to my father. Slowly and as gently as possible.
All of my senses are concentrated on my fingertips. Mac showed interest when I reached out my hand.
He also raises his head cautiously. This is an important part, just before contacting Spirit.
Growl!
“Oh, my God!”
Suddenly, Mac showed his teeth like a rabies dog and tried to attack me.
After I took my hand out in a hurry, I fell flat.
Mac, who showed his hostility with all his might, growled and became wary of me. With an order from my father, he went back to the big tree.
He was the one who had given me an eerie look earlier.
I was relieved of my surprise and stood up casually and said to my father.
“Haha, father. They seem to think I’m a delicious food. You did that four years ago, and you want them to eat me up again.”
“Mac was afraid of you. One more communication.”
“Oh, please stop, Dad. I think I just fell and broke my ankle. If you’re done with your business, I’ll be on my way.”
Even after seeing him just now, he looks sad, as if he still has lingering feelings.
When I tried to go, my father sent all the spirits back.
“Yes, I’m sorry. Was it too early?”
Then he sat me down in a chair and continued.
“I called you because I have something to tell you.”
As I stroked my ankle, I looked up at him, waiting for his next sentence.
“Son, I intend to make you my successor. The next Duke of the Rainberg family will be Cantavia Quilz Rainberg.”
What the hell is he talking about?
* * *
I thought it was a joke.
Currently, there are three forces higher than the Emperor that currently control the Empire.
The Imperial family lost its former glory during the Great War, which broke out due to excessive territorial expansion of the Empire. Right now, it is the Church and two families who are sharing the power of the empire.
One is the Blue pillar of the Empire, and the other is a famous Swordsman family, who has been a great family for a long time since before the Empire was established.
Although it may not seem like my father is facing difficulties, the position of being the family head of the Rainberg family means a lot.
The Ducal House of Rainberg is the Shield that prevents the invasion of the northern Ain. But what would other nobles and the people of the Empire think if the shield was rusted and broken?
It is purely on my father’s strength that the power of the Ducal Family of Rainberg remains at the top.
“How can I be the shield of the empire?”
“You can do it.”
“I don’t deserve to succeed my father.”
“That’s enough.”
“A lot of people will protest.”
“When I became the lord of Quilz Castle, being born commoner, even the emperor didn’t believe in me. The words coming from those fools will not harm you.”
Sometimes I couldn’t believe it. The fact that my father, who looked like he was in his mid-30s or late 30s, is over 60 years old.
My father said he wanted to get out of the front line and retire.
My old man’s dream is simple. He said that he would like to stay peacefully with mother on the southern island.
Damn, I feel weak whenever I hear anything about my mother.
Come to think of it, I look like a bad guy who only resists…
“I’ve accomplished nothing. Wouldn’t Ranista fit better as the next Duke than me, the coward youngest son—”
When I mentioned Ranista, a small smile was immediately plastered on my father’s face.
Except for Ranista’s brutality, I’d be proud of him if I were my father and made him the heir. But my father’s idea was different. When he said he would make me his successor, I immediately said my brother’s name in order to remind him who was better.
“There will be a succession battle…My brother might try to kill me.”
“Haha.”
As if he had heard a ridiculous joke, my father replied with a chuckle.
“No way. You shouldn’t doubt the bond of your brotherhood. You’re twins, aren’t you?”
That’s why, damn it.
No one will think that I will survive in the succession battle if I have a brother as monstrous as Ranista.
“Father, Ranista is better than me. He is already commanding his own knights. He is also the youngest Commander in the whole continent. There’s no other person in the Rainberg family that fits being the next head than him.”
Until my father made such a statement, I thought that Ranista was sure to be the next Duke.
In addition to being the eldest son, I have felt in the past few days that even the retainers and the knights already look at him as if he were the current Duke.
At the age of 14, he is already the most powerful man below my father.
Others are already thinking that Ranista will be the future Duke.
My father nodded to my repeated persuasion.
“Each of your siblings has an outstanding talent. As my children, they will definitely outdo my own achievement in the future and become the best on the continent.”
‘Or be the main culprit of the world’s destruction.’
“But you have something that Ranista doesn’t have.”
“It doesn’t make sense to be the future Duke just because I can see spirits.”
I have never practiced the power of spirituality. Because I always thought there was no need to.
If my siblings regain all the power of their past lives, my father could stop them in the empire, because there was no other one.
“Tsk, you don’t even know yourself, so how can you persuade to give up?”
My father was really becoming an old man.
As I continued to protest, he also continued pushing through his ideas.
“This discussion is over. You will be trained as the successor.”
“Father.”
“I have no intention of changing my mind. Whatever you say, you’re the next head of the Rainberg family.”
My father’s words changed subtly.
“At the age of 18, when the succession ceremony will be held, you have already graduated from the academy and received a successor education. And if you succeed me, do as you please. I don’t care if I appoint Ranista as the next head of the family or run away from the family.”
As soon as I become the head, I have to appoint the next one?
I don’t know in detail, but the succession of a family, even the Duke family, will not be as easy to change like a online game.
“Is that possible?”
My father stood up.
“I’ve been an aristocrat for a long time, and anything is possible with power.”
Then he looked at me.
“So don’t run away at least until then.”
I thought about it.
My father is probably going to keep bothering me.
He’ll come after me even if I run back to the southern island.
I also remembered my conversation with Ranista.
‘I’m not your enemy.’
“Father.”
It’s okay. There are many ways to run. Four years, four years—I just need to wait four years.
“I can do whatever I want; you promised me that.”
“I swear on my grace and my soul.”
* * *
After sending his son, the Duke of Rainberg said to his spirit.
“It’s okay.”
He soothed the frightened blue wolf by stroking his head.
“It’s okay, he has already gone far. It’s all right.”
The trembling blue wolf gradually regained stability at the touch of Duke Rainberg.
‘It’s an unknown power.’
The Duke looked around. Not only was the blue Wolf terrified, but also the other spirits
Ever since he started communicating with spirit, this was his first time experiencing such case.
‘How can the spirits, who were not afraid of the devil, be afraid of my youngest son?‘
